Sculpture by the Sea, 2014
A hapless man is trapped inside a portaloo. Between his loud banging and cries for help, we hear him make some life-changing phone calls. Eavesdroppers listen in as a 5-minute 3-act audio play unfolds. The performance (by actor Jeremy Sims) was pre-recorded and played on a loop through a custom-built sound system inside the portaloo. (Song Zu’s sound design was so convincing, police were called several times by concerned bystanders.)
